Daniel Lehman was born in El Paso, Texas in 1964. He studied both biology and Art at the University of Texas, El Paso earning his BFA in 1993 and moving to Tucson, Arizona the same year. Lehman has worked as a sculptor and blacksmith since that time producing works for private collections throughout the southwest, and showing in galleries throughout the United States. His sculptures are created primarily of steel utilizing traditional forging techniques, and frequently incorporate secondary materials such as concrete or stone. Heavily influenced by the West Texas landscape of his youth, and drawing from his interest in large industrial forms for inspiration, Lehman creates works of striking simplicity, skillfully made reflecting his understanding of the material and process. In 2011 he was the subject of a solo show, “Daniel Lehman Recent Sculpture” opened in the Project Space of the Stanlee and Gerald Rubin Center for the Visual Arts at the University of Texas, El Paso.
